Baby & Toddler Groups

Baby & Toddler groups are informal, friendly groups that give parents and carers the opportunity to meet other families with babies and young children in the local community.  They can be run by a committee of parents or a group of volunteers.

Not for profit Playgroups and Nurseries

Nurseries and Playgroups in general care for children between the ages of 2 and 5 although some nurseries do provide care for babies too.  Parents leave their children at the establishment and the children are cared for by childcare staff.  There are different types of not for profit making establishments.

Partnership Pre-5 Establishments - These are nurseries in partnership with SLC and offer free funded places.  They are registered with the Care Inspectorate and follow The Curriculum for Excellence.  Staff are registered with SSSC and members of the PVG scheme.

Playgroups - These are mainly play based groups and not registered with The Care Inspectorate.  All staff and volunteers are members of the PVG Scheme.  These groups can run for a maximum of 2 hours a day.
